Santa Fe, NM is OPEN even if the Government is CLOSED!
Autumn Update 2013: Government Shutdown
It is an absolutely gorgeous first day of October, 2013 in Santa Fe, NM! The weather is fabulous as the aspens are changing to vibrant autumn colors, walking and hiking trails have been repaired after the much needed September rains, and hiking is good in areas that are open! Current government closures have effected a few popular national parks, but in actually there are so many beautiful outdoor places in and around Santa Fe to enjoy, it has not hindered our guests vacation enjoyment! Note the following closures and open areas as of 10.1.13:
*Bandelier National Monument . Questionable if no-pay trails like Cerro Grande or Burnt Mesa are accessible.
*Kasha-Katuwe Tent Rocks and Pecos National Monument
*Campgrounds and bathrooms in Santa Fe National Forest. Trails are still open however with the exceptions of previous closures due to recent flooding & fire damage.
*Orilla Verde, Santa Cruz Lake and Wild Rivers Recreation Areas.
*Santa Fe National Forest trails. NOTE: Carefully park outside any locked campground gate and enjoy your hike. Bathrooms are closed. See Aspen Viewing “Event” below. Sangre de Cristo Mountains – 16 miles from Pueblo Bonito bed breakfast inn.
*Ghost Ranch- its trails are gorgeous right now. Okeeffe house tours available too!
*Dale Ball Trails- hiking, mountain biking, etc. minutes from Pueblo Bonito bed and breakfast inn.
*Randall Davey Audubon Center – nature so close – less than 2 miles from Pueblo Bonito Inn. Hiking trails available too.
*BLM recreation areas which do not have developed facilities (like Cieneguilla Petroglyph Site) are open.
*Cerrillos Hills – off turqoise trail- a lovely area just outside Santa Fe on Hwy 14. 20 minutes from Pueblo Bonito b&b inn. *Hyde Memorial State Parks in Sangre de Cristo Mountain Range. *Rancho de las Golondrinas-open for Harvest Festival Oct. 5 & 6. Limited “winter hours“ otherwise. *Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta– annual event enjoyed by Pueblo Bonito bed and breakfast guests. 10/4-13/13.
OCTOBER SANTA FE EVENTS:
*Fall Aspen Viewing at Ski Santa Fe- Oct 5- 13. Scenic Chair lift rides (10am to 3:30pm-last ride down). 16 miles from Pueblo Bonito b&b inn– Santa Fe, NM.
* ABIQUIU STUDIO TOUR-Around beautiful Abiquiu, NM (just a 75 min drive from Pueblo Bonito Inn- Santa Fe). 10-5.
*SANTA FE INDEPENDENT FILM FESTIVAL: Five days of fun! Independent film screenings, community events, educational workshops- located within a short walk from Pueblo Bonito b&b inn! Oct 16-20
*GALISTEO STUDIO TOUR– A sleepy little village about 20 minutes from Pueblo Bonito b&b surrounded by spectacular foliage. An annual event which is the only time of year the public is invited to tour private studios and meet artists that call Galisteo (a classic New Mexican Village) home. 10-5. Oct 19 & 20.
