Why Santa Fe Opera Travel Lodging 2013?

Only in New Mexico… Only at the Santa Fe Opera! Combine an incredible facility, setting, riveting 2013 performance schedule and Pueblo Bonito Inn- Santa Fe’s extremely convenient location and affordability- who wouldn’t indulge in a world renown cultural event like the Santa Fe Opera? Highly recommended to New Mexico travelers staying at Pueblo Bonito Inn- Santa Fe in June, July or August. So many reason to take advantage of this “Santa Fe must do“, here are a few!

Architecture: The SF Opera is admired for its blend of traditional Southwestern style and elegance. Less than 7 miles north of Pueblo Bonito b&b in downtown Santa Fe, this striking, state-of-the-art, open-air theater theatre has won several design awards. It’s widely recognized for blending contemporary design aesthetics with traditional building materials. Presenting a panorama of breathtaking background scenery, the Jemez Mountains to the west and Sangre de Cristo Mountains to the east create a one-of-a-kind night “performance” of their own. The current theatre opened in 1998 and combines a total area 26,615 square feet of sweeping stage and mezzanine roofs which have a clerestory joining the two roofs. The “shape of the sound” inspired the roof concept has curves that follow the acoustic reflections of sound from stage to audience. Due to the  unique roof size and design, it is capable of collecting rainwater- approximately 60,000 gallons can be stored annually and used to maintain the opera grounds!

Art & History: Designed by John Crosby in 1956, primarily with the goal to give American singers the opportunity to learn and perform new roles while having ample time for rehearsal and preparation, its first season opened on July 3, 1957. SFO is internationally known for introducing new operas as well as for productions of standard operatic repertoire. Since its inception, the Santa Fe Opera has staged over forty  American and eleven international premieres, and has commissioned nine new operas.

SFO General Director, Charles MacKay describes it best: “Finding the right mix of repertory is our challenge each year — with a world premiere, a new production of a rare Rossini masterpiece, an Offenbach comedy, classic Mozart and a beloved opera by Verdi, Santa Fe offers operas for the adventurous and the neophyte. To be sure, beautiful music abounds!”

Santa Fe Evening Entertainment: Enjoy the sites, flavors, sounds, arts and culture of Santa Fe during daylight hours and save night time hours to tantalize your senses at the SFO! Nightly performances always begin at 8:00 or 8:30 pm with optional tours prior and tailgating is always an option (a great way to make a memory)! Intermission always includes an indiscernible sunset and mountain views!

Opera Shuttle Service:   A comfortable ride to the Opera offering an early or later Santa Fe shuttle ($20 round-trip) for Opera goers with pickup location options just a few blocks walk from Pueblo Bonito Inn-Santa Fe. Early shuttle arrives 2.5 hours prior to Opera performance for patrons to attend the Preview Buffet or first Prelude Talk. Later shuttle arrives to Opera 30 minutes prior to start of performance.
