September 2018- A Perfect Travel Month for Santa Fe, NM Visitors.
The perfect month for Santa Fe travel, in my opinion is September (and into October!). 2018 provides extra reasons for Santa Fe travelers. Don’t get me wrong, New Mexico travel is popular pre-fall and fall months but extremely enchanting is Santa Fe during the short 60 days of September and October! Don’t over look this exception travel time. September Santa Fe visitors enjoy cooler temperatures, reduced crowds, carefree attitudes as well as bountiful outdoor markets, Santa Fe Fiesta festivities and glorious natural beauty. While many US families begin preparing for school routines, value conscious travelers make time to take advantage of this distinctively unique area of the United States. Old historic downtown Santa Fe fills up with art fairs, festivals, and local residents returning to their beloved plaza. Outdoorsmen adore September’s natural beauty which announce the beginnings of rich colors of fall foliage (October) up in the Sangre de Cristo mountains. Hikers take to gentle stream lined trails in Hyde Park National Forest. Northern New Mexico tourists enjoy distinctively unique day trips searching out unexplored areas of Native American and Hispanic cultures. All activities and special Santa Fe events are within miles of downtown Santa Fe which boasts gracious southwestern hospitality and local New Mexican cuisine. Zozobra 2018-August 31, 2018 at sundown! Zozobra ushers in Santa Fe’s Fiesta celebration which takes place on Sept 10, 11, 2018! First Burning of “Old Man Gloom” at Ft Marcy Park on Labor Day weekend. Then 3 full days of dancing, eating and merry making on the plaza the following weekend.

Aspen Santa Fe Ballet: An Evening with Pianist Joyce Yang (Labor Day Weekend)– Sept 1, 2018 8:00 pm Enjoy an evening of live piano by world-renowned pianist Joyce Yan, a Van Cliburn International Piano Competition silver medalist! The winter premier sold-out audiences in Santa Fe quickly!
Shakespear in the Botanical Garden: Saturday, September 1, 2018, 7:30PM. (Labor Day Weekend) A Midsummer Night’s Dream, one of William Shakespeare’s most beloved works and a play perfect for a garden setting with performances on August 17 through September 2, 2018! A Midsummer Night’s Dream is a collaboration with the Santa Fe Botanical Garden, Shakespeare in Santa Fe, and the Shakespeare Guild. Prior to performances, consider bringing a picnic to enjoy amid the beauty of the Orchard Garden at the Santa Fe Botanical Garden, with sounds of Mari Outten’s pre-show renaissance music filling the air. Gates open for picnicking at 6:00 pm.

New Mexico State Fair: Albuquerque NM State Fair Grounds Sept 6-16, 2018. One of the top 10 state fairs in the nation, the New Mexico State Fair includes: a PRCA rodeo with performances by nationally-known country recording stars; Indian and Spanish villages; art exhibits, agriculture, animals, entertainment, food, carnival rides, and shopping at one of the largest state fairs in the country! Pregón de La Fiesta September 7 @ 6:00 am – 7:00 am Rosario Chapel, 540 Rosario Blvd Fiesta officially begins! The faithful of Santa Fe gather to complete the promise made by Governor Don Diego de Vargas in September of 1692 upon his arrival in Santa Fe. The Mayor of Santa Fe issues the formal proclamation declaring the start of the annual festivity. The speech includes original text from September 16, 1712.

Santa Fe Wine & Chile Fiesta– September 23-30, 2018. An outdoor wine & chili. tasting extravaganza for the cuisine enthusiast.
High Road Artisians Art Tour– Sept 22, 23, 2018 AND Sept 29, 30, 2018! The High Road to Taos Scenic Byway is a beautiful, winding road through the Sangre de Cristo Mountains between Santa Fe and Taos and offers magnificent vistas of snow-capped peaks, alpine meadows, and charming traditional Spanish and Pueblo villages. Inspired artists who live along the High Road welcome Santa Fe visitors to enjoy charming, century old traditional arts/crafts within their studios. Annual tour lasts two weekends of September. The 2018 High Road Art Tour takes place September 22, 23 and 29, 30.
